Introducing The Rockland Star

Addthis

Rockland needs free, county-wide online community news.

A few weeks ago we announced that a county-wide publication was in the works. Today we soft-launch The Rockland Star.

Our mission is to keep people informed, provide a responsible voice and a platform to the residents of Rockland County.

We have included links to Rockland’s Chambers of Commerce, Law Enforcement Agencies, School Districts, Colleges, Rockland County’s new website, Town websites and Public Libraries so that visitors to our site are only a click or two away from important information.

We also have included a page that lists various attractions in the county. It’s not yet a complete listing; rather it’s a work in progress.

Our Community Calendar is also a work in progress as we work through some technical issues but it is designed to allow members of the community to list events on the front-end that we can approve and publish on the backend.

We still have some housekeeping to do--some of which can only be done after we've had people actively use the site but we’re proud of what we have built for the Rockland County community.

Although Google Chrome is my preferred browser, the site looks much better if you use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.

As with Ramapo Times, we encourage the public to send in articles and press releases as community journalism is powered by the community. We are not censors however submissions must be newsworthy and we still insist that our five guidelines be followed:

  1. Tell us who you are
  2. Keep it clean
  3. Keep it fair
  4. Keep it honest
  5. Keep subjective personal attacks to yourself—attack the issue, not the individual.

Different perspectives are always welcome and encouraged. You can email articles and press releases to: newsdesk@internetworkmedia.com.

Ramapo Times will continue to operate side-by-side with The Rockland Star for the next few months with articles being published on both sites. Eventually the Ramapo Times url will direct visitors to The Rockland Star.

We are advertising-supported with a strong focus on providing cost-effective advertising solutions to small and mid-sized businesses. Small and mid-sized businesses are critical to moving our country forward and we intend to do our part to support them as they support us.

Take a look around, and please share this on Facebook and with your friends and neighbors. We have built new a Facebook page and a Twitter feed.

Your feedback is always encouraged.

Welcome to The Rockland Star--Free online community news that’s worth paying for.  www.rocklandstar.com
