DiFalco Wins School Board Seat-RCSD Budget Passes With More than 68% Support

Ramapo Central School District has a new Board member as local attorney and parent Theresa DiFalco earned more votes than any of the incumbents.

DiFalco ran pledging to give a voice to elementary school parents as she had two elementary school grade children enrolled in the District.

“I look forward to working with the board and I would like to thank the voters for putting their faith in me.” said DiFalco, “I know that we have many fiscal challenges ahead but I am confident that we will be able to move RCSD forward in a responsible manner.”

The 2012-2013 budget was also passed with 68.72% of the voters supporting the proposition.

“I am humbled and gratified that our budget was passed” said Dr. Adams shortly after the votes were tallied, “I can assure the voters that I will be a responsible steward of their tax dollars.  I would also like to thank Bill Gonzalez for his thirteen years of service as a member of the Ramapo Central School District Board.”

Parents outside an elementary school earlier today expressed their support for Dr. Adams and his budget but also frustration at the high costs and high taxes in the district while salaries and raises have not kept pace.

“I supported the budget and Dr. Adams because I think he’s really on top of things and will save us money” said one parent and taxpayer, “But I think that everyone expects cuts; the gravy train is over.”

“The teachers do a great job but their next contract needs to be in line with what everyone else pays” chimed in another parent.

“I voted yes this time, but Ramapo Times pointed out some things (in the budget article) that I didn’t know before.”  It is costing us too much and something needs to be done.”

RCSD has challenges similar to those facing most districts in the state and across the country.   Education is fully funded for the coming school year but many parents are expecting cost savings going forward.
