Video--Suffern Mayoral Debate with Jim Giannettino and Dagan LaCorte
- 10-19-2009
- Categorized in: Politics
The Suffern Mayoral debate between former Suffern Mayor James Gianettinno and Trustee Dagan LaCorte took place at Village hall Monday October 19th with approximately 130 people in attendance.
Ramapo Times received more than 200 emails with ‘issues’ that citizens wanted the candidates to discuss. We categorized them and then wrote question to ask the candidates.
The rules were simple:
- Questions could not be posed to a specific candidate; both candidates had to be asked the same question. No “Gotcha” politics here.
- Candidates were each given two minutes to make an opening address.
- Candidates were given two minutes each to answer each question.
- When both candidates were finished with their two minute answer, each candidate was given one minute for a rebuttal.
- Each candidate was given three minutes to make a closing statement.
In the end our list came to 29 questions. We asked away knowing fully well that we wouldn’t cover everything but we did ask 15 of them before the time ran out. A complete list of the questions we did ask is available in this article. Enjoy the video and make sure you vote on November 3rd.

Dear Mr. Gandon:
Thank you for posting this video of the debate by candidates in the upcoming election for the office of mayor for the village.
I live a great distance from Suffern; even so, I have great interest in day-to-day developments in Suffern.
I found this video to be an informative tool that provides insight into the thought processes of each candidate.
As you may be aware, I have special interest in how Orange Avenue and the Tilcon quarry property are developed, although I am unable to act on my plans at this time.
Having watched this video, I now have a much clearer idea of which candidate I would be voting for were I able to do so.
Thank you again for the service you provide to the community through the Ramapo Times, be the community Suffern or the wider community that includes Tennessee.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Suffern Johnson
Knoxville, TN
